Pashto music is the music of Afghanistan and mainly composed of songs and a considerable small scale of instrumental music. Pashto music culture has influenced Persian poetry a lot and has its own rich cultural history. It consists of themes such as eternal love like ‘Laila and Majnoo’ and other historical and emotional events.
The different genres of Pashto music are Tappa, Charbeta, Neemakai, Loba, Shaan, Badala,Rubayi.Instruments used in this music are long-necked lutes like Tanbur, dutar, dambura, and bowed lutes and the main instrument which is used in all kinds of music is Rubab, a short-necked plucked lute.
Famous regional singers are Salaam Logari, Meri Maftun, and Rahim Takhori. Ghazals form of music also succeeded in getting popularity in this region.
